This story tells of the downfall and subsequent redemption of a Norwegian peasant anti-hero.
BCO will close the concert with the premiere performance of A Paddler’s Symphony by BCO’s own Sarah Kremer! Inspired by a love of nature, the outdoors and water, this is piece will take you on a journey, features a blue grass group, and is sure to be a crowd favorite!
Sarah Kremer
Whether she’s playing saxophone or violin outside for a rabbit in her sister’s gardens on the family farm or on the stage of concert halls leading bands, jazz bands, and orchestras or performing in these ensembles, Sarah Kremer has always had a deep connection to the earth and its rich inspiring musicality. Born and raised on a farm in central MN she was constantly surrounded with foundational earth experiences - whether it was smelling the sweet aroma of grain, cut meadow hay, or walking barefoot through the horse pasture.
As a teenager Sarah had the opportunity to experience extensive wilderness canoe expeditions through the Les-Voyageurs Program based in Sartell, MN. Through this program she was able to share month-long trips with a small crew of other strong, incredible young women. Her first trip began in the Woodland Caribou Provincial Park in Manitoba, then crossed into the Atikaki Provincial Wilderness Park following the Gammon and Bloodvein Rivers, they crossed back into the Woodland Caribou Provincial Park to end on Lake McCusker. Her second trip was a Far North Expedition to Hudson Bay following the “Middle Track” route. The “Middle Track” refers to a historical canoe route used in the fur trade. This trip began on the northern end of Lake Winnipeg and followed the Nelson, Bigstone, Fox, and Hayes Rivers ending at York Factory, a Canadian National Historic Site that was a settlement and Hudson’s Bay Company factory trading post built in 1788 on the southwestern shore of Hudson Bay at the mouth of the Hayes River.
During her college years into young adulthood - present, Sarah spent summers and sessions guiding canoe trips on Lake of the Woods through Laketrails Base Camp on Oak Island, MN. It was through these experiences of guiding canoe trips that helped lead her to pursue a career in music education and caused her to fall deeper in love with wilderness experiences. Recently she has enjoyed tripping in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness through Piragis Northwoods Company based in Ely, MN.
Sarah is the 6-12th Orchestra Director at Cathedral Middle and High School in St. Cloud MN and is also the 4th and 5th grade Band Director for four elementary schools within Catholic Community Schools in the St. Cloud Area. She holds a B.M. Saxophone Performance Degree from Concordia College - Moorhead, MN and a B.S. in Music Education from St. Cloud State University.
When she is not teaching or making music, you can usually find Sarah in the woods of her family farm or on the water somewhere near Ely, MN. Another core foundational deep love is making as much music as possible with family, friends, and various music ensembles, pursuing musical growth on her instruments and conducting/ and growing through shared ensemble experiences/performances! She also enjoys spending quality family time in the boathouse up north!
