A celebration of individual artistry and collective harmony. In this special performance, the Buffalo Community Orchestra illuminates the exceptional virtuosity found within its own ranks. Presenting a diverse repertoire that stretches from classic foundational concertos to sweeping lyrical narratives, this concert is a testament to the vibrant musical community thriving right here in Buffalo
Matt Clemen
Matt began playing the trombone at the age of 10. His love of playing continued through high school, where he performed in the band and jazz band, and was a member of GTCYS (Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies) and the MN All-State band. Matt then attended St. Cloud State University, where he studied trombone under Dr. Mark Springer. While at SCSU, Matt was a member of the Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Brass Ensemble. His senior year, he won the SCSU Concerto competition and had the privilege of performing a solo with the SCSU Orchestra.
Matt received his B.A. in Music from St. Cloud State University in 2002. Since graduating, Matt has played with numerous community ensembles, including the North Suburban Concert Band, the Plymouth Concert Band, and the Rum River Brass Quintet, and has studied under Dr. Karl Wiederwohl. In addition to the Buffalo Community Orchestra, Matt also performs with the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra and the Basement Brass quintet and performs annually in the pit orchestra for the Becker High School and Buffalo Community Theatre musicals.
Matt is grateful for this opportunity to perform with the Buffalo Community Orchestra and looks forward to many more years of music-making with the awesome musicians of the BCO. Matt currently lives in Becker with his wife, Shelly, and their dog, Bella. Together, they have two adult children, Austyn and Kaylie.
Laura Dahl
Laura Dahl has been an active violinist/violist in the region since 2001, with orchestras of the Amadeus Chamber Symphony (concertmaster), Buffalo Community (Principal 2nd Violin), Central MN Community (concertmaster), St. Cloud Symphony, The St. John’s Boys’ Choir (concertmaster), and, occasionally, Willmar Area Symphonic (viola/violin). Her freelancing includes ecumenical church services, area theatre company pit orchestras, and private events as solo or chamber musician. With a Bachelor of Arts in Music from St. Cloud State University, she is a substitute teacher for K-12 music/ensemble classes at public and parochial schools. Laura was welcomed into BCO in January 2024 and is excited to perform with them this season.
Larry Marquette
Larry Marquette began his musical journey in fourth grade with piano lessons from Sylvia Varner. His mother encouraged this because he wanted to play percussion in fifth grade, and she knew piano provided a strong foundation. However, a true love for music was born, and Larry continued piano lessons for many years under Krista Elsenpeter and Diana Reynolds. He started percussion in fifth grade and transitioned to the bassoon in eighth grade because he wanted something unique and different. The bassoon ultimately proved to be the instrument that created amazing future opportunities. While Larry continued to play percussion for marching and pep bands and piano at church, the bassoon opened doors to the All-State Orchestra, a side-by-side performance with the Minnesota Orchestra, honor bands, numerous pit orchestras, and the Buffalo Community Orchestra. As a member since its first season, Larry has performed in nearly every concert, except during his college years. Upon graduating from UWRF with a degree in Agricultural Biotechnology, Larry returned home and continued his orchestra experience. Aside from the orchestra, he teaches Agriculture and Science at Dassel-Cokato High School and tends to his farm in rural Buffalo, where he raises fruits, vegetables, poultry, and dairy goats. His family are long-time vendors at the Buffalo Farmers Market, and his goats are featured in numerous shows across the state, including the Minnesota State Fair.
